The Sebel Kiama

A relaxing week away but with plenty of walks as well. Sebel Kiama is well located beachfront and only an hour and a half from Sydeny. All staff are cheerful, positive and clearly well trained - staff attitudes tell us a lot about the internal culture of the place and all staff made strong efforts to make us feel comfortable - pat on the back of the Training manager. Challenges: 1. The fridge is very noisy and woke us up continually during the night. I ended up turning it off before retiring. 2. The bathroom has no exhaust fan - this HAS to be fixed before we come again. 3. The bathroom has no shelving or cupboards to hold a lady's makeup etc - very inconvenient and an inexpensive fix would include a small portable cabinet with shelving (there's plenty of room for it) or some additional shelving fixed to the wall. 4. A very inexpensive fix for this one: the shower needs to be on a hose - replace the large rose head at the wall with a screw-on hose and hose holder giving those who like to stand under a rose that option, but giving the hose likers their comfort too. 5. Another inexpensive fix would be a red-end-of the-spectrum nightlight in the bathroom. 6. A very expensive but so worthwhile fix would be to install double sinks - these rooms redesigned for two people but the bathroom doesn't reflect that.

We went to Kiama to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary as that is where we announced our engagement. Returning to Sydney after a 3 week camping trip with 45 secondary student, in the time when we had 3 week school holidays, it was the final night & I & my (now) husband decided to tell the kids. Our honeymoon was Norfolk Is, which we will go to again early February. The Sebel was chosen as there was a good price with Trivandrum Hotel selection. The room was very pleasant as was the ensuite. All staff were very congenial, conscientious & nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the food which, while not particularly extensive, was adequate in their choices. The buffet breakfast was included in the price. It was more than adequate. Service finishes at M - F 9:30 am or 10:00 am on the weekends. Kiama has The Blowhole which wasn't blowing; lots if good cafes, many walks that provides different amount of exercise. 14/4 hrs from Sydney on motorways & expressways.

Friendly helpful staff, great space for conferences and delicious food. I arrived at night and found the venue very difficult to find as only the restaurant has illuminated signage. I drove around the block twice and eventually only found my way in thanks to a friend. My room was spacious, comfortable and the sliding glass door to the balcony opened for a breath of fresh air the next morning. Lovely. The venue is large but somewhat of a rabbit warren - lots of connecting buildings but no signage, maps or directions. Fortunately staff are friendly, patient and helpful. I would recommend this venue overall.

Return stay, and we love the hotel. Great staff and good location just off the main road. For this year's stay we asked to stay in the same room that we occupied last year. The day before we checked in, we were informed that the room was occupied on the first night, but the management was happy for us to change rooms for the remained is the stay.

Got a last minute booking for a night away in this lovely spot - the room was a great size, super clean. The only negative is the shower leaks on the floor. The staff are efficient friendly And nothing is too much trouble. Michelle had a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us with a personal note for a booking mishap - service recovery at its best. Love the location. Everything was excellent.
